Edit a rule
When you need to change a rule due to a contract change or any other reason, you must create a NEW rule and not override the existing one. Editing the existing rule has undesired impact on data integrity and relevance, i.e., the Rule name will change (for all months) but the thresholds will stay with point-in-time.
Example: A new contract is implemented in May. The client had an existing data rule to not exceed 1GB on the old contract, but the new one is at a 5GB threshold.
If you override the existing rule by changing the name and thresholds, the result would be that the new name would apply for ALL months (past and present), but only the new threshold would be moving forward.
- March 2019 – Rule name: Data overage rule 5GB with threshold of 1GB.
- April 2019 – Rule name: Data overage rule 5GBwith threshold of 1GB.
- May 2019 – Rule name: Data overage 5GB with a threshold of 5GB.
Once you have created and applied the new rule, you can set the old rule to Inactive by deselecting its Active check box.
- Go to Configuration > Administration > Rules.
- Click on the entry of the rule you want to edit.
- You can edit information directly within the rule record by changing the information in the field(s).
- Click Apply to save your changes.
